DAIDO MORIYAMA
PHOTOGRAPHERS IN FOCUS: DAIDO MORIYAMA
BY ANDREA COSSU
- Most colour works were takne on assignment for design and photography magazines.
- Loves to manipulate the images; changing tones, creating rough grains etc...
- Black and white is more abstract: reminicent of symbols in a dream.
-Monochrome has its own world.
- Colour and black and white can be seen as two separate realities.
- 'When i'm in the streets I feel like a hunter: this feeling, this 'behaviour of the hunter' is always inside me as I look around.
In any given moment, the city is sensual and posesses both comedy and drama - this is what people bring to the city.'

MEMORIES OF A DOG - THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF DAIDO MORIYAMA
- Moriyama wants to take "nasty" photos but he finds this hard to do in the city as it is a very clean, public place.
THE CAMERA
- Its compact, so it can be pulled out at any given moment and be ready to use. A smaller camera doesn't intimidate people so they don't pose.
- He has used the same camera for 10+ years.
FAREWELL PHOTOGRAPHY was ignored and people claimed there were 'no images'.

All of the images in all of the books are unusual shots of his city. They all share similar qualities but show different aspects and subjects of where he is based. His photographs capture what the native people see evryday opposed to what the tourists are shown.
To me provoke sounds like a somewhat negative word, I think of it negatively. I think that provoke could also suggest that an emotion or reaction is wanted to be shown or brought to the surface. The images shown in provoke can seem or be viewed as provocative as they show the less 'dressed up' parts of the city. The images draw attention to the beauty of the back alleys, markets and places people don't usually go to. I think 'Provoke' was chosen as the title because the images were taken as a form of protest and could be considered to have been made to hurt the government or people of authority. These images would have caused a negative reaction and
